This course is a legal requirement in Ireland

The law on the the use of abrasive wheels for cutting or grinding in the workplace is primarily set out in Part 12 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) (Amendment) Regulations 2016 (Regulations). The rights and obligations of both employers and employees in relation to health and safety at work are set out in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (as amended). Many of the specific health and safety laws are set out in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007- 2020 and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013. Both employees and employers have responsibilities and duties around health and safety at work under these regulations. Employers have a duty of care to their employees and must provide them with Health & Safety instruction, information and training. This instruction, information and training helps them be ‘competent’, acquire knowledge, skills and attitude for a positive health & safety culture.
