Introduction to
CSCS Health and Safety at Roadworks

The 1-day SOLAS CSCS Health and Safety at roadworks course is designed for operatives who work under the supervision of a CSCS Signing, Lighting & Guarding at Roadworks (SLG) cardholder. Essentially, the CSCS Health & Safety at Roadworks cardholder assists the CSCS Signing, Lighting & Guarding at Roadworks (SLG) cardholder onsite. 

Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013, it is compulsory for those carrying out certain high risk construction tasks including roadworks to have a relevant SOLAS CSCS card.

The SOLAS CSCS Health and Safety at Roadworks training course is a legal requirement designed to make candidates aware of the dangers involved in Temporary Traffic Management.

CSCS Signing, Lighting & Guarding at Roadworks (SLG) cardholder must be on site at all times when signage is being installed, modified or removed. They may only leave the site if a CSCS Health and Safety at Roadworks cardholder is present.

Assessment

This course requires candidates to undergo a classroom theory assessment.

Certification

Successful candidates will receive a Solas CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card for Health & Safety at Roadworks and a special-purpose QQI certificate.

Requirements

Specific requirements to ensure a smooth learning experience

To attend the CSCS Health & Safety at Roadworks course, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  1. Age: Candidates must be at least 18 years old
  2. Experience: Candidates must have some prior Roadworks experience within the past 2 years. 
  3. SOLAS Safe Pass: Candidates must possess a valid SOLAS Safe Pass card
  4. Photo ID: Candidates must present Photo ID at the course for identity verification.
  5. Irish PPSN: Candidates must have an Irish PPS number. 
  6. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Candidates must have their own personal protective equipment, including a safety helmet, safety boots, reflective high-visibility jacket and gloves.
  7. Passport Photograph: Candidates must provide a passport-sized photograph to accompany their application.
  8. Candidate Pack Form: Candidates must complete a candidate pack form at the time of booking, to show that they meet the requirements to attend training. The form must be signed off by a Supervisor / Manager / Employer who can confirm that the candidate meets the minimum requirements.

The One Day CSCS Health and Safety at Roadworks course is designed for operatives who work under the supervision of a CSCS Signing, Lighting & Guarding at Roadworks (SLG) cardholder. At all times at least one CSCS Roadworks card holder must be on site. Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013, it is compulsory for those carrying out certain high risk construction tasks including roadworks to have a relevant CSCS card. The rights and obligations of both employers and employees in relation to health and safety at work are set out in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (as amended). Many of the specific health and safety laws are set out in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007- 2020 and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013. Both employees and employers have responsibilities and duties around health and safety at work under these regulations. Employers have a duty of care to their employees and must provide them with Health & Safety instruction, information and training. This instruction, information and training helps them be ‘competent’, acquire knowledge, skills and attitude for a positive health & safety culture.
