SOLAS Safe Pass is a basic one-day, mandatory safety awareness programme, aimed at general construction workers including apprentices and trainees, craft workers and onsite security personnel.

Under the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013, construction workers are legally obliged to carry a valid SOLAS Safe Pass card on site at all times.

Requirements

Specific requirements to ensure a smooth learning experience

To attend the SOLAS Safe Pass training course, candidates must meet the following requirements: 

  1. Be at least 16 years of age.
  2. Have a good level of written and spoken English.
  3. Have an Irish PPS Number (If you are living in Ireland and employed by an Irish company, or have recently moved to Ireland and are trying to find employment, you must have an Irish PPS number to attend this course. If you are employed abroad, coming to Ireland to work on a particular contract and returning to your home country upon completion of that contract, we may be able to apply to SOLAS for permission to accept you for training. Please contact us for further details if you meet this criteria.

The SOLAS Safe Pass training course is a legal requirement for all construction workers, craft workers, and onsite security personnel etc in the construction industry. According to the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013, all construction workers must possess a valid Safe Pass card. This one-day safety awareness program aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of construction site hazards and how to prevent accidents. Therefore, obtaining Safe Pass certification is mandatory to ensure compliance with legislation and a safe working environment on construction sites. The rights and obligations of both employers and employees in relation to health and safety at work are set out in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (as amended). Many of the specific health and safety laws are set out in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007- 2020 and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013. Both employees and employers have responsibilities and duties around health and safety at work under these regulations. Employers have a duty of care to their employees and must provide them with Health & Safety instruction, information and training. This instruction, information and training helps them be ‘competent’, acquire knowledge, skills and attitude for a positive health & safety culture.
